Smith College // EMPOWERING VOICES: AAPI POWER THROUGH MEDIA, co-hosted by Smith College Asian Students Association, Vietnamese Students Association, and Pan Asians in Action, provides a platform on campus for Asian American and Pacific Islander voices, bringing light to issues about identity. Content creators Sahra V. Nguyen and Jessica Nguyen use various mediums to raise awareness of AAPI identity and how it intersects with traditional cultural values. WOMEN OF COLOR CONTENT CREATORS MASHUP: We live in a world that is rich in content but poor in value. Our social media feeds are fuller than ever, but ironically can leave us feeling emptier and more isolated. This void is exacerbated by a continued lack of representation of minority voices. Mainstream media still leans towards Western-centric narratives and ideals, which fail to resonate universally.
🌊 But, the tides are changing. 2018 was a watershed year that showed how people of color can dominate the highest levels of entertainment. Alongside these successes is the emergence of a new generation of content creators who want to tell different stories that push for more representation across cultures.
‼️ WOC Content Creators Mashup brings together women in Seoul who want to change the world through their work. Whether you are an emerging writer, photographer, videographer, podcaster, designer, or mixed media artist, this event will provide you opportunities to meet other like-minded WOC content creators, reflect on your journey and set goals, explore different multimedia forms of content to get inspired, and participate in workshop creative collaborative projects with other content creators.
